Yes I clip her nails, she hasn't made any holes in our leather couches either, although they are showing signs of wear, but the couches are 16 years old.

Had one of those for my dog that we drove across country. She hated it, but I can def. see why to have them and they can work as long as your dog doesn't hate the thing
