That's weird...M$ warrants there boxes now up to a year. Im happy i decided to go the Best Buy warranty route. If it breaks i take it to the store, the see it's still under manufacturer warranty, no questions ask, i walk out with a new 360. Next time mine breaks it might be around the time of the 360 Elite :rick:

should of spent the 70, let them fix it and give you that extra warranty.
Can you read? I spent $0 I fixed my existing drive by lubing the spindle and readjusting the laser's potentiometer.

Only problem with that is if you bought any downloadable content with your old 360 you won't be able to use it unless the gamertag is signed into live!. The DLC is locked to your 360's serial, if you go thru M$ they will refund your points to a new gamertag so the content will be locked to your new 360 and others can play it without you having to be signed in whie they play, but the process takes about an hour on the phone and 3 weeks of waiting for them to approve the transfer.

Another reason why I don't want to send any more 360's to M$ is they send you bck a refurbished unit, not the one you send in. So you get the DLC issue, I don't want to go thru that again. I just spent $30 for Shivering Isles, which both me and my wife play.

Is it a grinding noise or just a fast slow spin noise? Grinding could be the magnetic disc that holds the cd on the spindle coming loose, the spin down sound could be the spindle needing some lube, or the laser could be trying too hard to read and need an adjustmenth:

And if you ever get the 3 red lights your gpu probably came unsoldered from the MB due to some strap they used for the heatsink applying pressure warping the mb. Under the hot/cold conditions the solder will soften and harden eventually letting the gpu lose some contact. I found a fix for this as well.
