I've found that 400 grit is great for bug and tar removal

if you've ever done those free clinics at meguiar's in Irvine, they actually recommend something like 3/4 of a Solo disposable cup (like the ones u use for kegger's) per gallon of water.

i use NXT Carwash

but i've seen some bad ass results with Turtle Wax Ice

i have a bottle of the ice wash and the wax somewhere in the garage... i used it once, got it for free as a demo product...

it did a good job, but the civic doesnt deserve that nice of soap

my friend who details cars told me that you actually get more suds on the car when you DONT blast the bucket.

you fill bucket with water first, then pour in soap. the sud-sing action will occur on the car and as you dip the washing mitt/etc in and out of the bucket.
