Damn Lightning
So last night we had a pretty good storm come through the area. This morning I wake up and try to get on the internet and it appears as though the cable internet is down. So I call the cable company and they confirm that indeed it is down due to "heavy pole damage". I go down to turn on the TV to see if the cable TV is also off the air, and my TV won't even turn on.
Later tonight, I come home and find out the internet still doesn't work. I call the cable company and they tell me everything is fine on their end. I did some checking and find out the on-board network socket appears to be fried on my PC. The rest of the PC works fine however.
After thinking about it, the TV and computer are each plugged into there own battery back-up and surge supressor. This would mean that the cable line must have had a spike in it and killed the TV and network socket on my computer. The computer is no big deal, I can always get a cheap network card, but a new TV comparable to the one I have is $300. My deductable on my homeowners is $500. I purchased two surge suppressors with the intent of running the cable TV and cable internet through them to prevent the aforementioned things from happening, but was told by the service tech I could not use a surge supressor on the cable as it would interfere with the signal and not allow the internet signal to pass.
Lightning suks!!!

That's a pretty freaking large price range. Anything greater than $1,500?
