The human body actually is designed for indefinite life under normal conditions. Then you add in the hman factor where we pollute ourselves numerous ways, even by taking in air and water. This has a deterioritive effect on the body as a whole over time and limits the regeneration of cells and begins the aging process.

the latest theory has to do with telemerase (sp?) everytime a cell is regenerated the telemerase gets shorter and shorter. when it's all gone, no more regenerating.

so we are designed to expire.

brain cells don't reproduce, so eventually you smoke them all to death.

Possible...yes
In this world...no

Carcinogens are in everything and it has an effect no matter how small. Even "pure" oxygen given in hospitals contains a certain percentage of impurities. So even if you lived in a sealed room on pumped in oxygen eating only organically grown foods you would still recieve impurities that would have an effect.

Umm... if the cells have endless regfeneration potential then the thought process and mobility would not be an issue because those cells and muscles would simply regenerate

Yeah I have heard this too, this also has to do with why clones don't live as long as they should, since the cells used to clone already have a shorter telemerase.
