Default question about windows xp

Disclaimer Qualifying proof of purchase must be recent receipts showing the purchase of a mother board, hard drive, RAM and a CPU. The components can be on multiple receipts; not necessarily all on one receipt nor on the same receipt as the qualifying Windows XP/Office 2003 that you purchased.

how recent is recent?

Sounds like he's asking about the OEM/System Builder's price on the OS. Microsoft will sell you the OS at a $50 discount if you're a "system builder." You don't have to be a manufacturer, only someone building a computer from scratch, and only certain Microsoft dealers are certified to sell the OS this way. I know MicroCenter is one of them.

I would think recent is relative...what's recent to me may not be recent to someone that is less than half my age.
