I always liked the Passat. It's a roomy, comfortable car with a great interior. It drives well and has good power in the VR6 version, and adequate power in the 4-banger.

However, until VW can design an electrical system that isn't shit, I can't recommend that anybody purchase a VW. Every VW I've seen has weird electrical problems, many from day 1 off the factory floor. Power windows that stop working or have a mind of their own, batteries and alternators that die far too often, sound systems getting screwy or blowing speakers, or power door locks that cease functioning or do weird stuff, like unlocking all the doors except for the driver's.
