Default Sound editing software

Anyone know where I can get some good sound editiong software? I need it to make ringtones... The one I have is the motorola phone tools but it sucks because it only allows me to make low quality ringtones... So yeah, computer gurus help me out. Thanx

One of the best programs I have EVER worked with is Cool Edit Pro which is now rebadged as Adobe Audition.

I tried audacity, but it was kinda meh, since I needed to dl a plugin to save as mp3 and I couldnt figure out how to reduce the size of songs ... So I just got nero 7 which came with a bundle of crap and it has sound editing, I'm about to try that one out... The adobe one was nice but it was only a trial
