just cut the shielding back, and splice the wires together with some electrical tape

From the looks of the picture, if you would have hit the stud, it would have gone right through the wire anyway. :dunno:

too bad they are probably melted together....

you just need a splice in there, to be up to code it will have to be in a box, thats pretty much it..
