Default Is it possible to learn how to play golf...

by reading how-to books. I want to learn, but too cheap to pay for an instructor and my gf's dad gets annoyed with me when I played with him. I'm not too good at following instructions h:

that's what i'm doing and i still suck. if you want to get really good you'll need an instructor...if you just want to be competitive with your buddies, books and practice are fine. On a good day I'll shoot 90-95 on 18, on a bad day I'll get so pissed off we won't even keep score. They really help with consistentcy.

Shit tons of practice.

You can read up on technique but if you are not consistent in your practice habits you are going to always have a shitty game no matter what you do.

Phat honestly you should get a teacher and at least take a lesson or two because he can give you the fundamentals. Then you can go to the range and work on those. Its going to be tough to just read a book a go out and play. Plenty of people have learned the game without an instructor but it will help. Biggest thing is practice man. Gotta practice a lot and devote time to it. The better you want to be requires more time. I always use to get members come out to play and they'd complain after their round about how they didnt play well. Then my boss would be like "I dont know why you wouldnt play well since you've been out here all of twice in the last month." Kinda harsh but its true
