Project Colt (with video)
Okay, it's official...
My Colt is going to be AWD. I started a Colt thread for those that keep asking about it. For those of you unfamiliar with what I'm talking about, there's a link to me stripping out the old 1.5L SOHC in my sig to make room for the 2.0L DOHC turbo. I'm putting the same turbo kit from the GSX which made 357 awhp into this hatchback, because I'm "going bigger" on the GSX.
Thursday I picked up the transmission donor car. I was GIVEN a '92 Eagle Talon AWD by a friend, complete with a 6-bolt 4g63 turbo engine, 4-bolt Limited-Slip rear, and the title. Fortunately they had already pulled the engine and transmission to diagnose what went wrong after they rebuilt the motor. That saved me a ton of work. Where it all went wrong; they got the intake and exhaust springs and keepers backwards so the motor seized the first time it was cranked. The head was trashed, but the shortblock is golden. This 130k old car sat in a garage for 3 years. It's never snapped a timing belt or suffered any major accidents. Just a little dirty and a slight bit rusty.
So now I have another 6-bolt big-rod spare shortblock. I don't need my FWD stuff anymore because I have a complete AWD drivetrain. What's sick about this swap is that I can use a 2g MAF which reads 18% lean on a 1g ECU, and 550 injectors which flow 18% rich (because it came with 450cc injectors), and they cancel eachother out... meaning I will need $0 worth of fuel management for this car to make it run properly. The '92 AWD cars have an un-governed EPROM ECU and I've decided not to use the '90 wiring harness, coil pack or sensors as a result of this. By using the '92 ECU, I can get DSMlink engine management down the road, if and when I need it. It's a win-win for teh Jafro.
Today I got to the shop around 1:00 PM. I had a great day. Here's some video footage for those of you still awake and protesting to the adjustment of DST...

Wow, a whole forum full 'o "don't care". :P I thought someone would be interested in a 450hp AWD hatchback. I know it's not a Honda, but someone's bound to be bored at work that might enjoy this.
Here's an update...
I updated the link above with all the rest of the footage from a week ago in the link above, and added another video with the tear-down from this weekend of the 4g63 turbo motor. I updated my sig to include video of the '90 engine-donor car being stripped. The ECU fried on that car just before I stripped it, and since the harnesses are different I'm using the coil pack and sensors off the '92 car. Here's the tear-down video of my project in-progress:

I have the interior almost out of the Colt. I have to pull the steering column and AC/heater assembly boxes. 'just getting it ready to rewire... I'm taking Thursday & Friday off to work on it. It's going to be in the upper-'70's.

The time lapse vids are mesmerizing. :eek3:
If you don't mind my asking, what track did you use for the Colt teardown vid?
And I could've sworn I was hearing the Benny Hill theme for the Laser vid. :chuckles:

Well, the Colt tear-down video is Buddy Rich "What Did I Say". The Benny Hill Theme of course is the Laser strip video... and everybody knows that one. Don't Touch Me was way too appropriate of a song for the '92 Talon because all I needed to make that a complete and running car that had never been wrecked was to throw a new cylinder head on it, and I could have owned another turbo AWD car without much more work. It would have passed VA state inspection with just 1 new tire. The engine teardown was Aphex Twin's "Window Licker".
I have about 2 hours of recordings of Buddy Rich yelling at his band members on the bus about how bad they suck, how he has to "carry" them because they suck, how stupid they are, how much they drink, how stupid they look, and what worthless replaceable musicians they are. Truly it is art. Buddy was an angry angry guy when he wasn't sitting behind the drums, but when he was playing he proved to be one of the best drummers that ever lived. I can't hear one flaw in anything any of them ever did, either. It's just something he did every time they got on the bus.
I took today and Friday off to work on this project some more. I'm going to port the exhaust side of the head I'm using and drop it off at a machine shop today for a valve job (that I don't feel like doing myself), then swap the front knuckles and hubs from the Talon onto the Colt. It's scary how it just bolts right up. It will be converted from 4-lug to 5-lug when I'm done. I'll have to shorten one axle and the driveshaft to make it fit. That will cost me around $170, and using engine mounts from a Hyundai Elantra, the front and rear mounts of the Talon mixed with the frame-side mounts of the Colt, the engine bolts in.
I have some video of another friend of mine that's got the 4g63T in his Mirage Hatch. I sold him that car for $60. I used to post about that car before he put the turbo motor in it. He's FWD with a Quaiffe, and he still can't solve wheel hop issues. I'm doing the AWD conversion to avoid buying a quaiffe, and still end up having wheel hop issues. That... and because it's

You bet! Probably next season if it's still being aired. I doubt I'll be able to get this thing running this month, 'cause this job is a helluva lotta work and I still have to gut the rest of the Colt and weld in all kinds of shit to hold up this rear. I can't even be off a 16th of an inch or this thing's going to track crooked on the street. I have to take my time and get it right because it will be doing a little over 130mph in the traps. Nobody makes an intercooler pipe setup or a bolt-on exhaust for what I'm doing.
Looks like I need a fuel cell. I was going to use the gas tank from the Talon, 'cause it had a Walbro 255lph in it and the Colt tank has to go... but this thing is going to run faster than a 10.99 (on paper). I need to do a cage, too. Dang.
Since you guys are acheing for another video and I don't have one ready yet... Here's one of me playing fetch with my cat. I got him a month ago, and he's a freakin' dog in cat's clothing. He's awesome.
MEET CABOOSE.
