$600 may look like a lot, but you're getting a multimedia powerhouse. You can try to break the price point via random coupons + online store purchase to avoid tax.
GT HD is has an unknown street date. Sony is infamous for delaying these games in order to provide a bulletproof, error free, 100% accurate game. To them, it's a work of art.

I wonder if this will have an online capability? Bracket style tournaments as well as points to earn insanely fast cars
Any news on Metal Gear Solid BTW? That game is the very reason I am buying a PS3 :hs:

hory chit dude.... that right there is enough reason to buy a 60" HDTV and a PS3 plus a top of the line sound system and a gaming chair and wheel

If Sony were to launch with Motostorm, Virtua Figther 5, and Armored Core 3 ... I'm sure they wouldn't be in the shit house they're in now.
I'd give it a good 6 months and you'll see console sales explode. Games like Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, and Gran Turismo will move systems.
