the front vertical pillar leans away from the camera, the back one leans towards the camera. It's just the angle of the picture that makes it look weird.

but then again thats just my theory...its probably fake.

Yeah, I am thinking you guys are right. This is what I guessed:



That piece is just sticking out and cut at an angle to appear as if connected when the picture was taken at that angle.. I thought it looked pretty cool though, because I always saw it in drawings and stuff but never applied to something tangible.

 

thats probably it...but that extension you circled at the angle its at makes it look like its tucked behind the back pillar instead of being in front of it like it would obviously be. Just kinda weird.
