I usually install the Ace Mega pack, but after installing a pack for mkv files EVERYTHING has gone to crap. Whenever I try to play xvids I get a Windows Explorer error and Windows Media Player error.

What pack AND version should I get to get everything to work?

I use to have the Ace Mega, FFDShow, the .mkv pack, and I think one more.

 

K-Lite Codec pack. It has never failed me and plays anything.

and if you really need to play quicktime/realtime

there are the quicktime and realtime alternatives, that's what it is actually called. I have itunes because of my GF so I can't use the alternative.

+1 for the K-lite. Its awesome

 

K-Lite is anything but light. It seems like that pack has several things that do the same job, making some of the codecs that come with it redundant or sometimes cause problems.
