Default job advice

blanket question, insight welcomed....

got an offer to interview for a lateral movement into a bigger company. i want a job that pays more, offers more etc.

so do I take the interview because my chances of moving up in the company are better than where im at or do i just hold out for a new job that actually moves me up instead of over?

Yes definitely. Bigger company = more chance for vertical movement.

How's the stability of the bigger company? Last hired first fired if business has a downturn. The only way I would have done a lateral move from one company to another when I was working for someone would have to included a pay raise in that position well above the mid point of the pay grade.

its a well established non major bank. 120 branches in 23 NY counties... i just dont want to start at point zero at another company, only to have to put more time in before i move up. i know im qualified for more, my banking experience is well rounded and i've been at it for a while now.... like i say, i cant afford to wait too much longer here...

I would definately do it then, but I would still want to get a substantial pay increase even in a lateral move.

interview anyway and have a list of questions you want to ask. seems like you know a decent amount of background about the company so use it your advantage. ask them about training and other opportunities. its def worth a look

oh, and never tell them how much youre really currently making. add at least another 10-15% h:
