Had to put my dog down yesterday
And I just mentioned him in a post a couple weeks ago.
I noticed less then a week ago that Abe had stopped touching his food.. brought him to the vet on Saturday... got some bloodwork done.. and.. basically his body was just shutting down. His liver and kidneys were completly shot. And he completly deteriated over the weekend to the point where he couldn't stand.. and could hardly even keep his head up. I always promised him I wouldn't make him suffer needlessly... and.. to keep him going would have meant constant bloodwork, constant IV fluids and constant meds. He was 17.. I wasn't about to put him through that. So.. yesterday I called the vet and told them I wanted to bring him in.. and they told me they do euthinasia as the last appoint of the day. I had mixed feelings with that.. I was greatful for any time left with him.. but.. he was so... worn down.. I didn't also want to make him wait for peace. Mid day he had a seizure.. so. I called them.. and pleased that they take him sooner as I just didn't want him to suffer....
They met my wishes and he went peacefully..
Ironically.. and not by choice.. he passed on the day of his namesakes birthday.
I had him for 15 of his 17 years.. and I will be forever greatful I had such a good boy in my life.

aww i am so sorry to hear. I know exactly how you feel, Its the same thing that happened to my dog a year and a half ago, he became weak almost overnight didnt eat and wouldnt stand up. brought him into the vet for some tests, they called back saying that his body was shutting down due to cancer and internal bleeding and we were going to have to put him down. we were just about to leave our house minutes later to say goodbye to him when we got a call back saying that he had passed on.
Very sorry for your loss :wtc:
