It would show the files on the disk but it wouldn't open the file...so all i gotta do is format the disk

wow....my new computer didnt even come with a 3.5in drive.

double click my computer>> right click floppy drive a: ( assuming the floppy has already been inserted )
right click on the drive and select format.

What is the file you are opening? It's possible your computer at home doesn't have the software needed to open the file and that is why it won't open? If you format the disk, your information is deleted, so don't do that unless your sure that's what you want to do.

It's possible it's a defective disk, portable magnetic media isn't the most robust, but if you can see the files in windows, that's most likely not it.
