Default wireless internet guru

i just set up my PC in my new place, and i tried connecting to the wireless connection setup in the house. The connection shows full signal strength, but when i try connecting to it, a window pops up saying tht connection cannot be established and tht the signal is lost. i tried it a few times, but same thing... any ideas?

how long has this been going on?
in my experience when you screw around with your home network (changing settings like DHCP, enable wireless security, etc) maybe it takes a while to adjust to the changes
usually i have no connection or no internet from the modem. it goes back to normal in an hour or so

weird but ive seen this happen more than once and not just at my house
