DIY: Mobile Ringtones
K, I was bored and I wanted to make this thread about making your own ringtones. I have installed ringtones in two different phones: the Motorola ROKR and the LG VX-8100. But today, I'm just going to talka bout the ROKR(but its basically the same for most phones).
Tools & Programs you need:
(Switch programs are free to use)
1) Switch 1.05: This program allows you to convert mp3's into wav files (or the opposite). ***When you download this program, it will ask if you want to install these other programs. Click and install Switch Wave Editor.
2) Switch Wave Editor: What this allows you to do is basicaly edit your songs. You will want this because most of the time, you dont want your ringtone to start at the intro of a song, Duh! (editing your songs are self-explanatory. Just mess with it. What I do is usually only use the chorus)
3) TransFlash: This usually comes with the Motorola ROKR. Some phones use different types of disks and dont always come with the phone. On the LG VX-8100, I had to buy my own miniSD card for it.
4) Universal SanDisk reader, USB for your phone, or computer card reader slot: Either of these are optional. They connect the card to the computer. This is the Universal SanDisk reader:

The Actual Process:
1) After I have edited an mp3 so that the file is only a 30 second chorus, I convert it into an mp3 again(yes, convert to mp3 because for some reason, if you convert mp3 into wav, the file enlarges). Leave the file on the desktop for now.
2) Next step is to connect the card to the computer. I used a Disk reader. What I do is take out the TransFlash card from my phone and insert into the Universal SanDisk reader. After that, I insert the reader into the USB port of my computer.
3) A window should pop up. There should be two folders: iTunes and mobile. Double click on mobile and then to audio (C:>Removable Disk>mobile>audio)
4) Go back to the desktop and find your mp3 file. Drag the file into the new window labeled as "audio".
5) Close the window and insert the TransFlash back into your phone.
6) Turn on your phone and let the card load
a) Go to my Media>Sounds.
b) Click on the menu tab and click on Switch storage Device
c) Search for the song (usually the first one) and highlight it.
d) Click on the menu tab
e) Click Move into Phone (after this, youll be back into Sounds)
g) Once again, Switch storage Device (go back to your Phone)
h) Now, your mp3 file will be stored on your phone's memory and not the individual memory card.
i) Highlight the song and go to the menu tab>Apply as Ringtone
There you have it.
