Default Rebuild/Rebuildable Title

First off, let me say i wasnt sure where to put this. All the other forum topics seem to be about certain cars, events of, just your 'On Topic' forum. I found this one to be the most suitable for this topic. If im wrong then i apologize and move it if need be....

On to my question...i took my car in the other day to trade it in for a 2002 BMW 330i because i dont feel my family is safe enough in it. I want something more solid. Anyway, i took it to a toyota dealer with a used, black above mentioned car and started dealing. They looked at the car...:goodjob:...says theyll give me 9 for it... not cool. Then they ran the vin number.... it came back as rebuilt/rebuildable on the title. He looked at me...with a serious face, and says, "we'll give you a thousand for it..." so i reply, 'you can have one door hinge, and a tire w/o the rim...'

So i got in touch with the DMV in washington where this 'rebuilt' title was issued but never stamped, and they said call oregon. Oregon said the car isnt listed as totaled. This means it wasnt totaled correct? The lady said it could have been but most likely it was stolen and stripped. When i bought it, it had a sticker on it from the state of oregon mentioning something about it being stolen and recovered...

Now that you got some background as to what information I've been presented with, my question:

How much can i sell it for with that on the title since it was just stolen and stripped and all parts have been replaced with aftermarket?

EDIT: Notice the paint difference between the kit and the body color has been fixed and both match now.

At this point, you'd be better off taking the time to completely part the car out.

In CA with a salvage title, you'd be lucky to get $3500 assuming your motor is in excellent condition with reasonable mileage.

As a rule.."salvage" titles absolutely demoilsh the resale value on any car. I wouldn't have bought the car in the first place, frankly. h:

Lastly, aftermarket mods are not an investment in the car's value.
The sooner you learn this, the better off you'll be.

Not salvage - rebuilt..meaning it was stolen. In oregon they would have put Salvage on it instead of rebuild.

From the buyer's perspective, you are talking about a very minor difference in semantics. Again, unless you find someone who doesn't know better... you're probably not going to be getting $9k for that Civic.

The only way I see you getting out of this is if the dealer mislead you or concealed the fact that the car had been issued a salvage / rebuilt title.

Also, did this thing start out life as an EX... or an Si or what?

Started as an EX. Ive been looking into buying a K20 swap for it but if i cant sell it for dick i dont plan on dumping any more cash into it than i already have.

I may be able to sue them, but they can say 'they didnt know' and it totally removes the blame from them. Even my bank didnt know, and they claimed to have ran a check although i doubt they did otherwise it would've shown up.
