LA MESA – More than 20 cars were damaged late Friday and early Saturday by vandals who police believe used slingshots and marbles or rocks to break car windows.
To date, 26 vehicles have been reported damaged. The majority have been damaged along Cowles Mountain Boulevard near El Paso Street in the northern limits of La Mesa, said police Sgt. Matt Nicholass.
Advertisement Four more vehicles had their side windows broken Monday and are believed to be part of the series, police said.
One of the vehicles most recently damaged was reported on Cowles Mountain Boulevard where the others had been vandalized. But, the other three vandalized were in other neighborhoods: – on 71st Street near Colony Road; Vincetta Drive near Marengo Avenue and Howell Drive near the La Mesa Village.
San Diego police received reports of similar vandalism nearby, although the exact number of cases is not yet known, Nicholass said.
Witnesses twice reported seeing a newer model white or gray pickup truck leaving the area shortly after windows were broken. The truck was described as a Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma.
The cost to repair the damage caused by the vandals is expected to exceed $4,000, police said
