Default Might be presented with an opportunity to obtain a FJ40

Some local mechanic has one that he picked off a friend of his for cheap. Might let it go for cheap as well. It's beat up, it's got some body rot, and the rear three windows on the top have been kicked out by some vandal kids, but it's got a second tank gas tank fitted under the rear (within 6" of the trailer hitch :nervous: ), a front winch, padded roll cage, and it could be very let go at a very good price.

Things to look out for when checking this thing out? Also, any idea on how much it would cost to get some replacement rear windows for one of those? h:

if the price is good, and you think you'll enjoy working on it, i'd say go for it. FJ40's are sweet.

I'm looking at it as more of a utility vehicle that I can take camping, to the beach, to Burning Man, and other such adventures that I couldn't take my Integra to. Possibly to replace my Integra until the Volvo C30 comes out (I wonder how much I could get for that thing?).

it sounds like a money pit or a good project car if you make it big.

honestly if you are looking at buying a new car, i would pass on it.

I love FJ40s they are borderline bulletproof to some degree.

Hope you got a lot of money though. There are some shortcuts you can take if you aren't worried about a restoration as much as just getting it back on the road. Parts for the FJ40s are premium pricing because they are a big time niche vehicle/collector vehicle. I have seen more than a few people pick them up and a year later turn around and sell the entire project off.
