that sucks. 50 bucks is a lot to some people.
my aunt was here from the philippines and shes far from poor (think 3 houses and acres of property), but i've seen her wash/reuse plastic cutlery and straws. I even saw her wash and reuse a glad sandwich bag. i was like whoa, thats pretty frugal. but then again all her penny pinching worked, 2 of her kids are surgeons, and the other 3 are damn well off themselves.

Hell, I've walked by a dumpster, seen something sticking out of the top, grabbed it and continued on my way. No shame as long as it's worth it to you.
Normally it's computer monitors or other electronics. They make fantastic target practice. :rick:
