Default best service provider for a Blackberry or other similar phone

my friend wants to get a Blackberry or other similar phone. my question is which carrier has the best to offer? sorry, im a noob at this. thanks, yo

my guess is verizon. i have verizon BB and it works good...but then again we have a dedicated Blackberry Enterprise Server which then ties into our exhchange server...so as far as emailing...it goes over verizon network, but it also relies on our infrastructure as well.
