What's it mean when my cursor just starts drifting sideways on its own volition? I'll be doing something and all of a sudden my cursor starts moving across the screen and I'm not even touching the track ball.

I have a wireless trackball and will not go back to a regular mouse. So it's just minor malfunction for now?

Try a new mouse is the first thing i would do. I would then look at just blowing some air in the ports for your mouse and the actual connector for your mouse and see what happens.
