Default my honda radio won't power up

This is the one i am rigging to fit inside my tool box. I put my test light on the dc converter and it powers up fine. I tried what i thought was the accesory wire to the box and it didn't power up so i tried the battery wire same thing. So i tried both and still no display. So i'm curious if it is powering up and i need to connect the illumination wire as well.

Its just the honda radio that came in my 94 accord. I wouldn't think i should have to hook up the illumination wire but some cd receivers i had in the past i had to hook up the wire some times. Any ideas...

tomorrow i'm goinng to hook up one of the speakers to it to see if i get sound.
