Default i think my hard drive died

i figured it was going to happen soon. its my external, i turn it on and i hear that sound windows makes when a usb device is plugged in, but its not shown on the computer at all.

any ideas?

luckily i just backed up everything onto my friend's hard drive a month ago.

sometimes, windows doesn't detect my drive


try unplugging it several times or restarting xp.

if you want to rule out the drive.... disasemble it, and put it internally into a PC and see if it works.

Whoops Nevermind But It Sounds Like It Could Be Overheating Id Try Cleaning It And Addind A Little Thermopast,if Not It Could Be A Warped Fan.

ive unplugged it a bunch. ive turned it on and off. ive restarted twice. i am going home today, i might throw it in my desktop and see what happens.

Any noise from it at all? It might just be the case

well i unplugged it again and turned it off and back on and plugged it back in.. it works.

i dont know what was goin on. thanks guys
