I know how much active military gets paid way before I even enlisted. I'm not doing it for the money; if I was doing anything for the money I would look into being a desk jockey in some cube in some office building.

I know some guys that have done that and lived in uhhh... below standards (atleast to me) homes/apartments to make a couple extra hundred dollars here and there
When my sister was an E-4 in Bethesda, MD, she would get her base pay and an additional 1300 for rent/utilities a month. She roomed in a townhouse with 2 other girls and paid probably 400-something per month in rent and would pocket the 900.
