When I first came here from the Philippines...
Well Balikbayan boxes are mainly used for US people traveling to the Philippines. Often they are packed with leftover clothing, American food, and other essential living items to benefit their relatives that continue to live in the Philippines. Often they are poor and their US relatives continue to support them. So yeah, it's basically a care package. My family used send alot of boxes but we realized alot of them took this for granted and demanded even more shit, so eff them.

yup, some of them are like that. we sent my aunt remittance money when she was alive so she could have her treatment meds for her breast cancer. My cousin (her son) intercepted the money and spent it on clothes and internet cafe houses and shit. If I see him when I go there, he's a dead man. Seriously.
I have a fuckface cousin too, when he came over here to settle down my parents provided alot of shit for him, even a car. My dad bought an '05 Accord for him to use. He promised he would make payments n' shit. Never made a payment after four months, I had to threaten him on Myspace (only way to track him because he would pick up on nasty ass fobs) saying he needs to make back-payments or return the car..or else we'll report it stolen. He brought back the car in a few days, I found he sold the stock wheels for some mickey mouse bullshit ricer wheels, sold those ricer wheels and bought some steel wheels, got an XM unit and lowered the car...yet he didn't make a payment. Like your cousin, I would like to plant a jackhammer on his face if I ever run into him.
