when you are runnin around town, do you have to wait for this thing to boot up everytime and then have to shut it down before you can turn off the car?

reading the other posts, you would have to wire the computer to a constant 12v otherwise if you forgot you could screw up the software and it just wouldn't be good for it.
I would probably tell it to hibernate after 5 minutes or something and turn off after 1 hour.

You could use a laptop battery and auto hibernate or shutdown software. Or just use the hibernation mode every time you get out of the car, and use the laptop battery to keep that going at all times. Then boot would be really quick!
Personally, I wouldn't deal with the turbo timer unless you already have one. Just use a relay and aux. from your alarm.
There's a jumper configuration you can use on the power supply that will tell it what to do. I have mine set to perform a safe shutdown when power is lost for 10 seconds i think it is. Then it takes about total time 45 seconds for the pc to safely close all apps and shut down.
