that depends if he's using his old hard drive for mobile storage or secondary storage in his new desktop. imo, they're great. they allow for much greater expandability and they're quite simple to install. if he wants to be able to move his hard drive often, he should spend the extra duckets for a usb enclosure but otherwise, this will suit him just fine.
