Default another UPS horror story... input needed

well, i got my final package a couple days ago.... it was in a HUGE box, and pretty much everything was scattered inside the box.... no padding, no nothing.... anyways, i talked to the seller and he said tht the box i sent him wasn't the box he sent it out with.... at this point, i'm giving him the benefit of the doubt

only thing i can think of is tht the original box got ripped and UPS put everything into the new big box... just dumped everything in there and put in 2 big parcel paper for "padding" :madr: damages so far include a broken distributor cap, and both temp sensors on the head... i just hope the head is ok, but i dun actually know how to check tht

anyways, the package is insured... but when it was delivered, my friend signed for it... the UPS guy did say "if you find anything wrong, just give us a call and we'll handle tht".... i'm just hoping tht the signature didn't free UPS of their liabilities... so, my questions are:

1. Can I still claim insurance on this?
2. Who will make the claim? me or the sender?
3. How can i tell if the head is damaged?

thanx for reading this... /rant

1. The delivery signature doesn't absolve them of responsibility. Call UPS and flie a claim ASAP.

2. You start the procedure... but expect UPS to contact the sender as well.

3. The obvious sensor damage should be photographed. The rest is a matter of visual inspection.
This parcel was just a head, correct? With neither manifold attached?

If a shipper re-boxes something don't they have to declare it?

I think I'd take a closer look

i got everything for a head swap, but everything was separated into 3 boxes.... 2 were fine, but the last one was messed up.... inside the box are the following:

1. complete distributor (with the cap crushed)
2. H23 head
3. H23 valve cover
4. fuel rail
5. H23 cams

a lot more misc stuff, including nuts and screws and etc.... the IM came in another box... so, i just need to take pix of the damages and call up UPS?

Yes.
And keep everything, including the packaging in which the head arrived.

Just out of curiosity... was the valve cover re-installed on the head?
EDIT: Nevermind...you've posted pics. h:

Wow...that is one shitty repacking job.

I'd be concerned about packing crud entering the head, bent studs, damaged sensors, etc, etc.

Any machine shop should be able to measure how warped or bent the head is, but an engine/performance shop will know better what the tolerances are.
