Thinking about the new Shuffle
My youngest daughter wants an MP3 player this year. So after looking around a bit for a small inexpensive one I think I have landed on the 1gig Shuffle.
She doesn't need a large player since she is only 8 and her sister already has a Nano so iTunes is already on the comp and it eliminates having to load another program on her moms comp.
So has anyone used one yet? Any downsides to it aside from no screen?

She might have more fun with something that has a screen. She can read the song titles or whatever. Theres plenty of players that are inexpensive (Less than the $80 Shuffle) and have a screen. I havent used one...but its pretty puny. Looks like a novelty toy.

The only person in that house who is really computer savvy is her older sister and that leaves 4 people calling me to fix that damn thing every month.

I just want to keep it simple as possible for her and since her sister uses iTunes for her Nano she can show her the easiest way to use the program and load up from it.

I gave my daughter a 512 shuffle two years ago for Christmas. She was 9 at the time. I told her that if she could figure out how to navigate it properly, I would upgrade it to the next one by next Christmas.
My thinking was:
(1) When I was 9, I didn't get $100 gifts so small and easy to lose.
(2) No screen is like learning to ski and they take your poles away.
(3) Since I'm a computer geek, I see her navigating without a screen like learning a computer w/out a mouse. If she needs an upgrade, she needs to tell you why

That was my take
Your turn to go through that.:wiggle:

Hey John,
This reply is in respect to the the tread you created. I don't have much knowledge with the Ipod Shuffle. I do remember a thread that WestCoastStyle made about it; he bought one just to find out he cant play and charge at the same time. I think he would be a good source of information in regards to your matter.
I hope this little bit of information i provided you can help.
Sincerely,
Your pal Jae
