When walking down stairs, which foot initiates the descent?

When walking down stairs, which foot initiates the descent?
I ALWAYS start the descent with my left foot. I've tried using my right foot first but I get all weirded out.

so if you start on left or right, does that mean everytime you come up to the stairs you stop and change the lead foot just to go down? thats insane
