so...sore
As some of you already know from my thread that got Stickied...I enlisted in the Army reserve this past Saturday. Well...seeing as that I've put on about 50-60lbs since HS (almost 4 years ago), and since I don't ship out for another 6 months...I figured I'd get my ass into decent shape before I go. So...I talked to the HS principal and he's letting me use the track after I get off of work. Monday was my first day...I started off jogging 2 laps straight, then walked 1.5 laps, then jogged the other half lap to make it a mile. Yesterday the only thing that was sore were the tops of my thighs. So I figured...I'll try to jog 3 laps straight then walk the 4th. After I about collapsed from jogging 3 straight laps...I called it quits. I tried to do too much too soon...but I'm proud of myself for doing it though.
But I'm paying for it today...my legs are so achy and stiff. But, I'll get through it. I can't go running today b/c I have to meet with my recruiter to get some tax stuff set up...which I'm glad, b/c that'll give me a day of recovery and let my muscles regroup.
Anyways, anybody else out of shape and feeling the pains of starting up again?

I learned that the Marines actually don't have a set PT training. They somewhat mold it around your needs and your ability. They will push you but they won't break you because they do want to keep you in the Marines as much as possible.
good to know. i still need to get down to the max weight for my height though. :hsd:

Start slowly....brisk walking for 1-2 miles is actually not a bad way to get started. There is no shame in doing 10 minute miles as you start. You also need to go about 30 minutes each time, but don't push yourself to the limit the whole time. Be sure to warm up and cool down, which will help with the soreness.
This is I think a decent link http://www.stewsmith.com/6weekrunningplan.pdf
It's the prep plan for the Navy PFT running portion. Not totally applicable but the concepts are there.
