As you guys know, my computer took a shit on me last week. A few nights ago I hooked up my dad's laptop in my room...I disconnected my PC from the cable modem, and hooked the ethernet cable up to the laptop. Initially, it wouldn't connect. After resetting the modem, it finally connected...the internet worked for 3 days. Last night, it wouldn't connect again. I reset the modem about 10 times, including power cycling with restarting the laptop...still wouldn't connect. It wouldn't acquire the network address, and then flashed a warning that there was little or no connectivity associated with the internet connection. Does anyone have any ideas to stop this from happening and get it working again?

anytime you switch computers... the modem has to be reset.

then if you cant connect..

start, run, cmd..

ipconfig /release_all

ipconfig /renew_all

 

I tried to release/renew, and it wouldn't recognize the ip or reconnect.

 

So I just got home from work and fired up the laptop...all the sudden it connects. Why the fuck wouldn't it connect last night? Nothing changed...

Sounds like to me your laptop just wants pulling an IP

 

Did that about 4 times, reset the modem 10 times....turned on the computer tonight, worked like a charm. :dunno:
