it really isnt that expensive to idle an engine that size. In northern Alaska diesel work trucks dont even get turned off in the winter, they leave them idle all night since it is such a pain in the ass to start a diesel in such cold conditions because it is hard to get up heat of compression.
they do that in alaska out of neccessity, not choice. medium duty diesel engines consume a gallon to a 1.5 gallons per hour at idle, and that's why truck manufacturers find alternative means for heat and power... but you dont have to tell me, i've been driving tractor/trailer for about 4 yrs now....
