Just get a new case for it. Cheap ones are 10-20. Good ones are 30-40. I have two that I love that are $42 after shipping.

Does the drive actually have an assigned letter when it's hooked up? Ex. "D:\" ? Or does it simply show up as an "External Mass Storage Device" ?

There must be an option somewhere to tell windows to automatically connect to this device.

Has anyone ever told you that you suck at speaking and constructing coherent sentences?

windows connects to pre-connected stuff automatically on boot.

check the support on WD's site.... there may be firmware updates :dunno:
you can always buy a new enclosure :dunno:
or you can just deal with it :dunno:

But it works when I replug. Considering its not in an enclosure... I dont see how the enclosure would allow it to start on boot if its not doing it outside of the enclosure.

You said its an external hard drive. Thats an enclosure... Unless the hard drive is just sitting out in the open with a wire going into the computer, its in an enclosure.
