Default DirectTv receiver

Which is a good one to get? Are they all the same?

The apartment I just bought has Direct tv dishes and they will only charge me a small fee for using it but I need to buy my own box.

Try Craig's List. We don't have HD yet, but we have two 40 hour Directv w/Tivo boxes. Series II w/ USB on the back and optical audio & S-video made by Hughes. Got them for $40 each at different times. They work great.
