So in theory if you are driving 180mph+ and you hit a brick wall... you'll hit the wheel before the bag deploys rights?

Even hitting the bag at that speed would probably kill you.

 

You would have to be going a little faster than 180 because there are crumple zone in cars which extend the time of the crash, but if you hit a brick wall going anywhere near that speed, an airbag would do about as much good as a napkin for a parachute.
