Default real quick Q: what grit sandpaper?

For metal body work? The truck has missing paint and mild oxidation all over the cab. I was gonna sand it down and spray some primer on it for now. What kinda sandpaper should I be using?

I'm not concerned with getting a real high quality finish, I just want to get rid of the oxidation and the primer to stick, so preferably just one grit for the whole job rather than 400 and 800 or whatever... I'm a nub to paint prep.

Man even 400 sounds a bit high to me, but I guess if you have the patience you can make it work. I believe those grits would work for wet sanding though.

primer will fill up to 180 grit scratches, so i would do 180 then 320 then primer, just to be safe.

didnt read your whole post, i would just do 180 then since your not extremely picky on finish

thats why I ask. I have no clue.

:edit: I think I'm just gonna say screw primer and rustoleum it. h: Will 180 work for rustoleum? I'm not sure wether I'll be rolling or spraying.

i think if primer can do 180, then rustoleum should handle it easy
