pot houses raided...again..
I hate that "gateway drug" bullshit. It's all in a person's personality. I've been smoking for about 6 years and I've never once wanted to try meth or ecstacy or anything else. I just like to get high. I never let it make an impact on my life. I'm never late for work, I never drive high, I don't obsess over it. People who do other drugs like pills, or anything you inject or snort make me sick. I've lost two friends already to that shit. It's pointless.
Now, this point of view is one you rarely if ever see in the media. All they show is the "gateway drug" crowd. People who want to get fucked up as much as possible and do whatever they have to get that fucked up when marijuana or alcohol no longer does anything for them.

I used to know people who would mainline crank but had never smoked weed a day in their life. So saying it is a gateway drug is fairly inconclusive.
A person is going to do what they are going to do regardless of how it is introduced, it will either appeal to them or it won't. By your argument it would be safe to assume that if pot were legalized then everyone would smoke it and eventually begin to use harder drugs. There are more than just a handful of people who smoke pot and only drug they do is pot, I even know people (many in fact) who will smoke pot but never touch cigs.
The argument has been made many times that cigs are considered a gateway drug as well. Alcohol also lowers inhibitions and if drugs are introduced you woud think that alcohol would allow that person to be more susceptible to the use of other drugs.
It is not apples and oranges.

You are more likely to do harder drugs if you smoke pot, bottom line. It doesn't mean you have to, it means there is a greater chance.
As far as cigs being a gateway drug, I think that may also encourage other drug use, but not as greatly as pot. And which direction is our country headed as far as cigarettes go? More and more places are smoke free now.
I'm not being a dick, but you just proved your first statement wrong. The fact that you are a pot smoker makes you more likely to be around harder drugs. If you are a typical "pot only" smoker, why is it that two people in your close social network have been affected by harder drugs?
