I'm aching to try the 'roll on $50 paint job' that was posted a few months ago. A project like this would be perfect.
Because anyone with a checkbook can have a $60k+ trailer queen built and never get to enjoy it. I build mine to drive and every vehicle regardless how over the top it has been has been a street driven vehicle at least a portion of the time after it's build.

Lead filling, flathead/nailhead/stovebolts, Chop, channel, sectioning etc. are all arts that are a large part of Americana and the history of automotive enthusiasm, racing etc.

Wow. I admire the folks who have the skills, equipment, and patience to do that kind of work. Good luck and enjoy.

BTW, anyone got a link to the $50.- roll on paint job mentioned above?

I don't know if it's more funny or sad that I think you've actually taken the last 2 posts I've made in this thread seriously :eh:

No there are two ways to build a vehicle really.

If I want a street rod I use any means necessary to complete the project combining new and old technology. Fuel injection, IFS, jag rears, disc brakes etc.

When I say traditional (sometimes called rat rods) I mean that it is as period correct as is realistic. the height of hot rodding pretty much ended in the early 60s, so the people who were building and dragging rods were using what was available at the time. disc brakes weren't really around except in fronts sometimes...but who could afford to chop up a brand new car for the front brakes? Small block V8s never came stock in cars on the whole until about 62 or 63, so until a few years passed and they showed up in wrecking yards no one could afford them. this is why the "Nailhead" and the "Flathead" are pretty much the engine of choice. some even use the straight 6 engines and a few run old 4 bangers.

There is a lot more to a traditional than grabing a catalog and ordering parts...it's about the hunt as much as the build for the parts used.

I may actually be going this time around

If all goes right I may be going with my neighbor in either a 65 Mustang, 60s model Cougar, Rocket 88, 50 Chevy sedan or a 62 Vette. If my truck is finished I may take it down as a support vehicle.
