I believe an oil change takes around 10 quarts due to the dry sump system. I did some research on them awhile back for my dad...I can't remember but a lot of M5's have to have something done to them every like 60k miles that requires removing both heads or they leak oil like crazy. No it's not the head gasket.

there are still plenty of CPO E39 M5s available

or you can buy one with less than 50K and get it CPOed for nominal fee.
