Default Will chinese DVD's play on a US DVD player

I want to buy some DVD's off of ebay but is says they are from china. The guy says the DVD's are in english and chinese subtitles can be turned off. Only the box is printed in Chinese. If I buy these DVD's can I play them?

Mine isn't "cheap". Are they in the same format as US dvd's?

it doesn't say the region code in the auction. That is why I was asking here. I was hoping someone knew from experience if it would work.

well I just won the auction so I hope they work. If they don't I can always burn re-encoded copies with my computer. But to do that for 23 DVD's would be a pita
