Default Computer People, Need Assistance

Ok. My computer currently has two printers installed on it, but only one hooked up obviously. They are the same brand of printer, but are different models. I have tried to set the current printer as the default printer, but it always reverts back to the old printer. I have tried deleting the printer, which momentarily switches default to the new printer...but then switches itself back, and doesn't get deleted. Any ideas?

unplug both, delete both, hook up/install old printer, remove old, hook up/install new as default.

I haven't tried...I only wanted to delete the old printer that I no longer use.
