Theroretical Questions with Pete v 2.0
A hole wide enough to fit a human through it is drilled into the earth and passes through the earth's core and out the other end. The outside of the hole is then lined with a special alloy that heat or magma cannot penetrate. Once this is done, a person jumps down the tube. Will the person make it to the other side of the earth?

The answer we came up with at work is this:
Assuming there is no air resistance, the person would start to feel the resistance of gravity once they passed the earths core and would start slowing down. Once they stop, the force of gravity would push them back toward the way they came. Eventually, they would stop in the dead center because everything is pulled to the center of the Earth by gravity.
Anyone else suggest something different?
Note: I never said the human has to be alive. It's just an example. It could be any object.

no. before hitting the core, the body will hit a terminal speed, and in turn will not be able to gain enough speed to exit out of the other end.
no air resistance, yes, the person should make it to the other end.
