Default noob tire/rim size question need help :o

posted this in the accord forum but that mess is always slow. figured id have more help here...

i bought the 17" OEM silverstar wheels for my TSX. im wondering if my current stock tires will be transferable to the new wheels. i noticed that the tire size for stock is 215/50 and the size of the tires that come on the silverstars are 235/45s

i called the dealership to see if it would be ok to just use my current wheels, but should i get new wheels that are 235/45?? what kind of effect will that have on me driving?

k, thats it. so what the deal is, son?

you can give it a shot... but that's shortening by a lot... you could always have them mounted... drive very hard and inspect the sidewall... if you don't pop out in a very hard run... you should be ok

There's only about 0.12" difference in diameter, 235's typically fit rims from 7.5" to 9" wide. Putting them on rims narrower or wider causes them to flex at points other than the designed flex points on the sidewalls. This will cause excess wear and heat build up.

how wide are the newer wheels? 215s should be fine. it might be a lil bit stretched so the rim protector, if any, will be useless.
