The other guy backed out of the deal when he put 1k as a downpayment. I thought you couldn't get down payments back..

not a down payment, a deposit. It depends on the terms of the deal whether a deposit is refundable or not. Seriously 4 months is pathetic, though.

Did you read the part of me having no control over the length of repairs? I never dodged him once, responded to every email he sent. If I can't pay it, I can't pay it.

Most deposits aren't refundable. But I think you have to tell the customer.

i dont know much about any of this situation..but it sounds to me like they were setting you up to be scammed " oh..you go ahead and just paypal me the money you would owe him for the tranny". Fishy fishy fishy..
