Default Theroretical question.

A hummingbird is hovering in the center of a bus. The bus begins to move forward while the hummingbird is hovering. Will the hummingbird eventually hit the back of the bus?

No. Hummingbirds are the bird of the Libra. We adjust to our surroundings and will not hit the back of the bus :hsd:

no, the bus and air inside of it are all accelerating. the earth is moving at 300 miles an hour, if you jump do you end up in your neighboors yard?

That is different, when we jump we are already moving the same speed as the earth. I meant if the hummingbird was hovering when the bus was stopped and than it started to move.

Yes it will hit the back of the bus.

As for sherwood: sure the earth is spinning and moving, but you are on the ground, aka the earth, so your speed is the same as the earth's. Not to mention the size of the earth, you would never see the difference. Look up Einstein's theory of relativity.

I don't agree. I give humming birds more credit than that.

It would go with the school bus unless the force of acceleration knocks it back.

It's theroretical. We are assuming that the humminbird remains hovering in place.

Oh. Ok. I can see the analogy better using a balloon that has just enough helium left to allow it to hover. I can see how IT would hit the back of the bus.

That's only because of the accelerative forces on it.
